SRF PVT Ltd कंपनी की स्थापना 1970 में डीसीएम लिमिटेड द्वारा पूर्ण स्वामित्व वाली सहायक कंपनी के रूप में श्री राम फाइबर्स लिमिटेड के रूप में की गई थी। इसका शुरुआती फोकस टायर कॉर्ड फैब्रिक्स के निर्माण पर था। इसका पहला विनिर्माण संयंत्र 1973 में चेन्नई के पास मनाली में स्थापित किया गया था।
1986 में, कंपनी ने ऑटोमोटिव घटकों के निर्माण के लिए Denso, SRF Nippondenso के साथ एक संयुक्त उद्यम स्थापित किया। इसे बाद में 1993 में एक अलग कंपनी के रूप में अलग कर दिया गया। 1986 में शुरू हुई एक अन्य सहायक कंपनी, SRF Finance को 1997 में GE Capital को बेच दिया गया। SRF का एक स्वास्थ्य देखभाल प्रभाग भी था जो प्लास्टिक ऑप्टिकल लेंस का निर्माण करता था, जिसे एक अलग 1997 में कंपनी।
